HappyWhenFit Healthy Schools and Communities Program

Proudly supported by the bunbury farmers market

The partnership between Happywhenfit and the Bunbury Farmers Market organically developed through our shared values and vision around community and youth health. The BFM have supported Happywhenfit workshops from the start by supplying the delicious fresh produce.

Our shared vision is to educate and empower healthier and happier communities; to inspire a generation of change.

What is the HappyWhenFit schools program about?

The purpose of the healthy schools program is to educate, inspire and empower students, teachers, parents and the wider community with the tools to make healthy choices. We want to connect school, home and community environments for the best possible integrated approach to health and wellbeing.

The program involves hands on, practical demonstrations and food preparation to show our young people how they can practice and apply healthy food choices into their everyday lives. It is further reinforced with the parent/teacher session, so that everything the students are learning can be reinforced and practiced in school and home environments.

The program is an opportunity for the Bunbury Farmers Market to give back to its community and positively influence its local people not only through the fresh food that they provide, but also through the education around how to use those foods to create quality nutrition, variety, and taste.

What costs are involved?

As a teacher, Danae is aware of the limited budget of schools. Normally the cost of the program is $500 per session, but thanks to the support of the Bunbury Farmers Market, we are able to heavily subsidise the cost! The price is inclusive of fully delivered lesson plans, food for students and staff in every session and Happywhenfit support resources to go on with! The costs are as follows pending on whether you want the full 3 sessions (highly recommended) or only a one off session.

1 session: $85

2 sessions: $155

3 sessions: $220

The parent/staff session is not included in this price and comes at an additional cost of $150 for a 75 minute session in which we cover what foods need to be included in a healthy lunchbox, yummy, quick and nutritious ideas for snacks and main meals. Parents/staff will take home some Happywhenfit support resources including recipes and lunchbox planning tools to take the pressure off your busy schedule and make space for healthy food preparation.
